Good, Good, and then Bad

This past weekends skate skiing race was good, in less then ideal conditions. With the generous inches of snow that came down friday through the evening and continued for our race made the lightning fast course that was there days earlier a soft, slow course for race day. Hovering around the freezing temperature made it a wet snow as well. When conditions are like this structure and flex of the ski become more important then the wax, although waxing correctly certainly helps.

It was a fun race for me, I typically go out with the leaders see how long I can hold these olympic caliber skaters and then fade into a lonely spot chasing and fighting my own demons to not let anyone from behind catch up. Same scenerio this day but worked with one guy, Scott, for 2 of the 4 laps to catch Lars who also fadded from the leaders but was able to hang on longer. Able to see and figure the gaps as the course would wind back on itself I was very eager to catch up. I would throw down some surges and stay consistant to see the gap close and then towards the end of the 3rd lap I went for it to drop Scott and gain Lars. Lars and I skied the last lap strongly and like gentlemen swapping our pulls. Approaching the finish we agreed to try in line up and sprint out the finish but with it being slighly uphill and a little chaotic around the finish line it did'nt really work out. We ended up finishing 5th and 6th.

The interaction during this race and really feeling better and faster as the "K"s slipped away made me feel very satisfied.

Spud Chase - FinishT-race happy its over, taking second in the women's.

Sunday was going to be a riding day but with the new fresh powder to be had I went with some friends for a ski tour in the park. We decided to go up Shadow peak. We were the first ones out in the skin track breaking trail, a great sign knowing nobody is in front of you to bump into. Its a lovely skin up a forested ridge reaching the summit in a casual 3 hours.
Approach to ShadowI get this great feeling when disapperaing into the mountains, so tranquil.

Wade - ShadowThe skiing is what you would expect, super fun!

It was great day and weekend, except while skiing I popped my knee out and felt it pop back in. Something was'nt right and when I got home it started to swell and overnight it only got bigger. Yesterday I went to my doc and then to another for a MRI, sure enough, torn ACL. F--K! Not sure whats going to happen, time will tell. Being optomistic there are people out there getting after it without one...F--K, F--K, F--K.
